St. Anthony Rectory Office Hours: Saturday Health Ministry Office Phone: (412) 220-0314 Email: kbarry0609@aol.com The Health Ministry’s goal is to provide wholistic health care to the church community. We care for clients as a whole body, mind and spirit, based on the following concepts: v The person is a whole being made up of body, mind and spirit; these facets interact with each other to maintain optimum health. v Health is an evolving process, continually working to maintain balance; Holistic health focuses on prevention. v Holistic health includes self-care; clients are responsible for their own health. The Parish Nurse is a blend of caring, compassion and healing; providing consultation, education and caring which is enveloped in the healing spirit of the Lord. The Parish Nurse’s role may include: v Education: providing illness information and offering classes on a wide range of health and wellness subjects and teaching responsible self-care regarding emotional, physical and spiritual health. v Consultation: advising individuals and groups about physical, emotional, social and spiritual concerns and making home, hospital and long-term care visits as needed. v Leader of individuals and groups: organizing and supervising volunteers from the congregation to assist with parish nurse activities, and developing and leading self-help groups. v Coordination: making referrals to physicians and community support services, assuring member access to and use of appropriate community health care resources and serving as advocate for the congregation to other health care providers. Wellness Coordinators are non-nursing personnel and are part of the Health Ministry Team. These volunteers can be respiratory therapists, nutritionists, exercise physiologists, or any lay person interested in promoting a healthy parish community. If you or a friend would be interested in these services or in joining our volunteer team, please contact Kay
