Programs The Parent-Teacher Guild is involved in a number of different programs in the school. These programs include After School Bowling, the Birthday Board, the Book Fair, Career Day, Great Books, the Lenten Fish Fry. The PTG needs volunteers to assist in all these activities. "Parent Volunteers Needed." All children can join in the after school bowling fun. Adult volunteers supervise children divided into age groups while enjoying the sport of bowling at a local bowling facility. There are two six-week sessions, one in fall and one in spring. Bowling is held every other Thursday until 5:00 pm. Dates will be announced in the near future. Each month a list of Holy Child students' birthdays for the month are displayed in the cafeteria and the children are given a token of recognition for their birthday. The book fair provides children the opportunity to buy books of their "choosing." The fair is held during school hours in November and at the end of the school year. An annual event which provides each grade with a variety of speakers about career choices available to the students. Students participate by wearing clothes which represent careers of interest to them. This activity is held in the last week of January. Junior Great Books, open to all students, is a shared inquiry method of learning through the structural discussion of literature. The search for meaning in a story is a genuine investigation shared by everyone in the discussion, including the adults. There are no "wrong answers" when you share ideas. The PTG (with others) provides manpower for the Lenten dinner in the season. Dinners are served on Ash Wednesday and Fridays during Lents. The PTG needs volunteers for all its programs, events and committees. If you have any questions about being a volunteer, email holychildptg@holychildparish.org. |
